Geology : What’s that??

Everybody knows what geology is, but most of them know nothing what’s the detail and difference of geology with other science like geography. Geology consist of two words : geo means earth and logos means science, so generally geology meant as the earth science.  Especially, geology learns earth as the main object, the processes happened, its composition, structure, history, and the   formation of its process.

The branches science of geology, simply consists of 5 sciences. Those are :

1.    Geology structure , which is called as “the king of geology”. It learns shape and the geometry  of rocks and the process did.

2.   Stratigraphy , which is also called as “the queen of geology”. It learns the step of rocks formation also its relation. This science supported by sedimentology which learns the formation of sedimentary rocks and its history.

3.   Petrology, as the science about rocks which cover how the rocks formed in the earth and identified  what minerals contained in the rocks by microscope.

4.  Palentology, consist of 3 words, such as: Paleo means past; onto means life; and logos means science. Completely, paleontology literary study about life in the past like fossils. Paleontology is used to decide the geologic scale (time) from each rocks usually sedimentary rocks and found a little in metamorphic rocks.

5.    Geomorphology, commonly learns the feature of the earth surface.
